Description of US Spanish-Speaking limited English proficient (LEP) Maps

US % Spanish LEP Map (Description)

This US map illustrates all 50 states:

Each state is color shaded to indicate the percent of limited English proficient (LEP) persons who speak Spanish at home in the state.  We have defined LEP persons as individuals 5 years and over who speak a language other than English at home and who have indicated that they speak English less than very well (LVW). 

 

Percentages:

The colors correspond to percentage of Spanish-speaking LEP individuals in the state as follows:

Light Yellow: (<=25%)

           Pale Orange: (>25% AND <=40%)

           Orange: (>40% AND <=55%)

           Dark Orange: (>55% AND <=70%)

           Brown: (>70% AND <=85%)
