US % Spanish LEPMap (Description)

This US map illustrates all 50 states.

Each state is color shaded to indicate the percent of limited English proficient (LEP) persons who speak Spanish at home in the state. We have defined LEP persons as individuals five years and over who speak a language other than English at home and who have indicated that they speak English less than very well (LVW).

Percentages:

The color shadings correspond to the percentage of Spanish-speaking LEP individuals in the state as follows:

  • Light Yellow: (<=25%)
  • Pale Orange: (>25% AND <=40%)
  • Orange: (>40% AND <=55%)
  • Dark Orange: (>55% AND <=70%)
  • Brown: (>70% AND <=85%)
  • Dark Brown: (>85%)

The color shadings correspond to the total number of Spanish-speaking individuals in the state as follows:

  • Light Yellow: (<=50K)
  • Pale Orange: (>50K AND <=100K)
  • Orange: (>100K AND <=500K)
  • Dark Orange: (>500K AND <=1M)
  • Brown: (>1M AND <=2M)
  • Dark Brown: (>2M)
